Chris Thyer - Head Coach of Satori Martial Arts Academy
Chris Thyer is the head coach at Satori Martial Arts Academy, overseeing the development of students across two main academies in South Wales and three satellite clubs. Holding a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Jujitsu and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Chris is a dedicated martial artist with a wealth of experience in both traditional and competitive forms of Jujitsu.
Chris plays a pivotal role in the national development of young athletes as the head of the Southern Region for Youth Great Britain Jujitsu, part of the JJIF’s (Ju-Jitsu International Federation) competitive and governing structure. Through this role, Chris has coached numerous British athletes across local, national, and international competitions, with achievements at every level.
Having actively competed on the national and international circuit, including a remarkable bronze medal at the European Championships, Chris has demonstrated excellence in both the adult and Masters divisions. Since 2024, his team has consistently medalled, securing a variety of silver and bronze medals. However, his crowning achievement is coaching Megan Thyer to victory at the 2024 European Championships in Belgium, where she claimed the U14 Female Gold—the first ever for GBJJ and the first British gold on the JJIF circuit in over two decades.
Chris's expertise, commitment, and success make him a cornerstone of British Jujitsu and a driving force in youth martial arts development.
